On July 24, many of our JSMMS AVID Scholars took an important step toward a purposeful and successful future. Sixth, seventh, and eighth grade AVID scholars committed themselves to engaging in rigorous academic coursework, demonstrating initiative through student agency, and embracing opportunities for growth and achievement.
Faculty, family members, and friends gathered to celebrate the scholars' decision to plan with the end in mind and lead with intentionality. The evening began with an overview of the Advancement Via Individual Determination

(AVID) program, followed by inspiring reflections from two of our eighth-grade AVID scholars, Kendayl Bush and Jada Ware, who shared their personal experiences and growth throughout their AVID journey.
The event concluded with each grade level signing its own AVID banner, symbolizing a shared commitment to academic excellence and personal growth. These banners will be displayed throughout the school year as a lasting reminder of the scholars’ dedication to their goals and the AVID mission.
