Middle level students were formally recognized for their outstanding academic achievement during our South Carolina Junior Scholars Ceremony held Tuesday, January 28, 2026. The event celebrated students who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance, perseverance, and a strong commitment to excellence in their studies.
The South Carolina Junior Scholars Program was initially developed by the South Carolina Department of Education in 1985 in support of the statewide effort to improve education and provide for the needs of students with exceptional academic talent. Students that qualify for this achievement receive an Award of Merit certificate. Students hade to score 550 or higher on Evidence-Based Reading and Writing subtests of PSAT/NMSQT, and 530 or higher on the Math subtest of the PSAT/NMSQT.
The ceremony brought together students, families, educators, and administrators to honor those who earned this distinction. This recognition highlights students who have achieved high academic standards and reflects their dedication to academic success at the middle level.
The program opened with a presentation by the Midland Valley High School Color Guard, followed by a performance of the National Anthem by Kristanna Mitchell, a student from Langley-Bath-Clearwater Middle School. Dr. Phyllis Gamble, Assistant Superintendent of Middle Schools, introduced the occasion noting the significance of this achievement. Musical tones continued with a performance from Paul Knox’s Orchestra which preceded the awarding of students individually.
Each Junior Scholar received a certificate and commemorative coin in recognition of their academic merit and commitment to learning. Students were acknowledged in the presence of their families and school leaders, emphasizing the importance of community support in student achievements.
Closing remarks were delivered by District Superintendent Dr. Corey Murphy, who congratulated the students on their accomplishments and commended them for their hard work and determination. Dr. Murphy encouraged students to maintain their commitment to excellence as they prepare for future academic challenges.
The district extends its heartfelt congratulations to all recipients and expresses appreciation to the families, educators, performers, and staff members whose support and efforts made the ceremony a meaningful and successful event.
