Seven students from Wagener-Salley High School signed commitment certificates to several colleges in the Southeast to join the education field as a career pathway. A signing day was held at the school on Wednesday, May 13.
Several of the students who are signing to get education degrees participated in the Teacher Cadet program, which introduces students to the world of classroom education. Other students have gravitated towards the education professions based off of personal experience and interest.
“A lot of them spend a lot of time at the elementary and middle school, and they've got some great mentor teachers over there and some great mentor teachers here, so hopefully that helps,” Stuart Crockett Atkins, a Teacher Cadet program instructor at Wagener-Salley High School shared.
This is the largest class of education signees at Wagener-Salley High School. For the class of 2026, that’s 12% of graduates.
“One of our initiatives is to expand education and get teachers into our rural districts and schools,” Jennifer Tinnerny, CERRA program facilitator said. “To have seven students sign, and hopefully come back home or somewhere in this area to teach is a win. For CERRA, this is an absolute win.”
Congratulations to the Class of 2026 Education Signees at Wagener-Salley!
