đ A Friendly Reminder from Our Attendance Office đ
Message from Karen Ulmer, Attendance Clerk | kulmer@acpsd.net
Dear NAUES Dolphin Families,
We are so excited to begin another wonderful school year together! To help ensure a smooth start to every school day, we kindly ask that you please take a moment to review the following important attendance procedures:
đ°ď¸ Tardies
Tardies are counted daily. To be considered on time, students must be in their classrooms by 7:30 AM. If your child arrives after this time, a parent or guardian must walk them into the building to sign them in at the front office.
đ§ Absence Notes
When your child returns to school after being absent, please send a note via:
Email: kulmer@acpsd.net
A handwritten note
Or a message through your childâs teacher
đ Sign-Out Policy
To minimize classroom disruptions and maintain student safety:
No early sign-outs after 2:00 PM unless there is an emergency.
Phone calls cannot be accepted for student sign-ins or sign-outs. A parent, guardian, or approved adult must be present in person with proper identification.
We truly appreciate your partnership in helping our Dolphins get the best possible start and finish to each school day. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me directly.
With gratitude,
Karen Ulmer

During the exciting first week of school, students in Ms. McGurkâs class at North Augusta Elementary focused on developing friendships and building a positive classroom environment! đ
Through collaborative poster projects, students explored and illustrated different ways they can be helpful, kind, and respectful classmates. From sharing supplies to using kind words, their posters reflected the values that will shape a successful and caring classroom community all year long. đď¸đâ¨
This activity supports South Carolina Social Studies Standard 3-1.4, which encourages students to:
"Explain the role of rules and laws in the home, school, and community and the consequences of breaking them."
By identifying helpful behaviors and working as a team, these third graders are learning what it means to be responsible, respectful citizensâstarting right in their own classroom! đđ

Today, students in Mrs. Whisnantâs class at North Augusta Elementary dove deep into the world of reading comprehension! đ§ đĄ
They kicked off their literacy lesson by reading a fascinating informational text about birds engaging in a surprising behavior known as âanting.â đŚđŞ˛ This curious habit sparked thoughtful discussion and laid the foundation for exploring main ideas and supporting details.
Working together, students then tackled two additional nonfiction passages, applying their analytical skills to uncover the central ideas and explain how supporting details strengthened those ideas. đŹđ
This lesson aligns with South Carolina College- and Career-Ready ELA Standard 5.RI.2, which emphasizes:
âDetermine two or more main ideas of a text and explain how they are supported by key details; summarize the text.â
Our fifth graders showed amazing teamwork and critical thinkingâway to go, Dolphins!

Ms. Andersonâs 2nd grade class kicked off the school year with a fun and thoughtful activity centered around the book First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg. đ
After reading the story, students had an open discussion about the feelings that come with the first day of school â from excitement to nervous butterflies â learning that itâs okay to feel a little jittery. To wrap up the story, they created and sipped on âJitter Juiceâ with silly straws to celebrate facing those feelings with confidence and fun! đđ
This engaging activity supports South Carolina ELA Standard 2.RL.5.1: Ask and answer literal and inferential questions to demonstrate understanding of a text; refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says and drawing inferences.
Weâre so proud of our students for starting the year strong, sharing their feelings, and supporting one another. What an awesome first day in 2nd grade!

On Day 2 of Kindergarten, our youngest Dolphins dove into learning with a hands-on, foamy adventure! Students practiced writing their names and the letter âLâ using shaving cream â a fun, sensory-rich way to build fine motor skills and early literacy.
This activity aligns with the South Carolina Kindergarten ELA Standard: K.W.2.2 â Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose informative/explanatory texts. Today, they used creative movement and texture to begin mastering letter formation â and had loads of fun in the process!
Weâre off to an amazing start, and our little learners are already making big strides! đŹđ

Our first and second graders had a fantastic first day of school at NAUES! Even though the temperatures outside kept us indoors, that didnât stop the fun. During indoor recess, our students spent time catching up with old friends and making new ones â laughter, smiles, and joyful chatter filled the rooms!
It was heartwarming to see our young Dolphins reconnect and settle into their new routines with such excitement and positivity. This day was a perfect reminder that itâs not where you play, but who you're with that makes the memories special.
