🐬📚 Welcome Back to NAUES, Joscelyn! 💛💙

Mrs. Rutland’s class is excited to welcome a very special Teacher Cadet, Joscelyn, to their classroom! It feels like full circle for Joscelyn, who not too long ago was a student right here at North Augusta Elementary School. Now she’s back, helping inspire and support our young Dolphins as they grow as readers and learners.

During her first week, Joscelyn used her bilingual skills to help Mrs. Rutland read and translate a story that included Spanish, helping students better understand and enjoy the story together.

This week the class celebrated Dr. Seuss, and Joscelyn jumped right in by leading story time and helping students with some of their Dr. Seuss-themed learning projects.

We love seeing former Dolphins return to help the next generation of students learn and grow. Thank you, Joscelyn, for sharing your time, talents, and love of learning with our students! 📚✨

📚🐬 Special Guest Readers Visit NAUES! 💛💙

Today some of our Kindergarten through Second Grade classes were lucky to welcome special guest readers from The Aiken Center’s Prevention Education Program (P.E.P.) as part of their Storytelling for Empowerment initiative.

Teachers selected titles from the program’s book list for their classes to enjoy, and our Dolphins loved listening to the engaging stories and sharing in the joy of reading together. Stories are such a powerful way to connect, learn, and grow!

Pictured is Tonya Avery, one of the wonderful readers who visited our students today. We are so grateful for the time she spent sharing stories and encouraging our young readers.

The Aiken Center works to promote hopeful, healthy living and freedom from substance misuse through prevention, treatment, and recovery support. Programs like this help empower students with positive messages while also building a love of reading.

Thank you to the Aiken Center and the P.E.P. team for partnering with us to support our Dolphins!

🐬🖤 Black History Month Trivia Champions! 💛🐬

Throughout the month of February, our Dolphins celebrated Black History Month by participating in a daily trivia challenge! Each day, a question about a famous African American leader, innovator, or historical figure was shared, and classes worked together to research and submit their answers. It was a wonderful way for students to learn, collaborate, and deepen their understanding of the many individuals who have shaped our history.

At the end of the month, we proudly celebrated our grade-level class winners:

🏆 Kindergarten: Dr. Moore
🏆 1st Grade: Ms. Council
🏆 2nd Grade: Ms. Smith
🏆 3rd Grade: Mrs. Icenhour
🏆 4th Grade: Ms. Ware
🏆 5th Grade: Mrs. Benson
🏆 Specials: Mrs. Prescott

Each winning class earned a well-deserved ice cream treat for their teamwork and dedication! 🍦🎉

Our photos highlight Ms. Council’s first-grade class enjoying their tasty reward and celebrating their hard work. Congratulations to all of our trivia champions!

🐬💛 Good Luck to Our NAUES Special Olympics Athletes! 💙🐬

Today our North Augusta Elementary Dolphins proudly cheered on a very special group of students as they headed off to compete in the Aiken County Special Area 15 Spring Games held at Citizens Park in Aiken.

Before our athletes left for the competition, the entire school lined the hallways with waving hands, cheers, and colorful posters to show our support and send them off with lots of encouragement and Dolphin pride! It was an incredible moment of unity as students and staff came together to celebrate and uplift our amazing athletes.

The Special Area 15 Spring Games is a track and field competition that brings together students from school and community-based programs across Aiken and Edgefield Counties. Our Dolphins were excited to compete, try their best, and most importantly — have fun!

📚🐬💛 NAUES Third Graders Receive Free Books! 💙📖

Today, Thursday, March 5, third-grade students at North Augusta Elementary School enjoyed a very special visit to our Spring Scholastic Book Fair as part of the Diana Floyd “My Own Book” Program.

Through this wonderful literacy initiative, every third grader received a $15 voucher to select a free book to take home and keep. Many students carefully browsed the shelves, and some savvy shoppers were even able to choose more than one book! Students also received a book bag provided by META to carry their new stories home.

This program is made possible through Public Education Partners (PEP) of Aiken County and their generous community sponsors who ensure that every third-grade student in Aiken County can choose a book of their own during their school’s Book Fair.

We are incredibly grateful that NAUES has been selected as a sponsored school for the third year in a row! Opportunities like this help foster a lifelong love of reading and support student success.

💛 Thank you to PEP and the many generous sponsors who made this possible for our students!

Aiken County Public Schools Mourns the Loss of Assistant Superintendent Julie Revelle

Aiken County Public Schools is deeply saddened to share news of the passing of Julie Revelle, Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools.

Julie dedicated her life to education and to the students, families, and educators of Aiken County. Throughout a decades-long career with our district, she has served as an English Language Arts teacher at Kennedy Middle School, Assistant Principal at North Aiken Elementary School, and Principal of Redcliffe Elementary School. In 2018, she joined the district’s Executive Leadership Team as an Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools, supporting principals and overseeing the instructional and operational work of many of the district’s elementary schools.

Throughout her career, Julie was known as a thoughtful leader and passionate advocate for students. She worked closely with school leaders and teachers across the district, offering guidance, encouragement, and support for the important work taking place in classrooms each day.

Those who worked alongside Julie will remember her not only for her dedication to education, but also for her kind and gentle spirit. She cared deeply about the people she served and supported throughout her career and took great pride in her family, including her husband, David, their daughter Beth, and grandchildren.

The loss of such a respected leader and colleague is deeply felt across the Aiken County Public Schools community. Support services are being made available for staff and school leaders as they process this loss.

Out of respect for Julie’s family, we ask that the community honor their request for privacy during this difficult time.

Aiken County Public Schools extends heartfelt condolences to Julie’s family, friends, and colleagues. Her dedication to students and educators will leave a lasting impact on our schools and the many lives she touched throughout her career.

💛🐬 Rising to the Challenge in Ms. Pope’s Class! 🐬💙

Ms. Pope’s students were hard at work today as they prepared for their upcoming fractions unit test—and they turned review time into a fun and exciting challenge!

Students worked together in small groups, solving fraction problems and earning a cup for each correct answer. The more questions they answered correctly, the more cups their team collected!

At the end of the review, the real excitement began. Each group had one minute to build the tallest tower they could using the cups they earned. The classroom quickly filled with laughter, teamwork, and some very creative engineering as students carefully stacked their cups higher and higher.

This engaging activity not only helped students review important fraction skills, but also encouraged collaboration, problem-solving, and strategic thinking. We love seeing our Dolphins learning together and cheering each other on!

Great job to Ms. Pope’s class for rising to the challenge and showing that learning can be both educational and fun!
