Mrs. Odenweller’s third-grade class has been hard at work learning all about severe weather, and this week they are proudly presenting their projects!
From hurricanes and tornadoes to blizzards and thunderstorms, our young Dolphins researched how different types of severe weather form, the impact they can have, and important ways to stay safe. Their presentations showcase creativity and a strong understanding of the science behind these powerful natural events.
We are so proud of the effort, confidence, and dedication these students put into their work. Way to go, third grade—you truly weathered the challenge and did an amazing job! 🌪️⛈️❄️
Great job, Mrs. Odenweller’s class!

Help us congratulate Mrs. Parliament-Griffith, a math teacher at Paul Knox Middle School, on being named a Golden Apple Award teacher by WJBF News Channel 6.
She was one of three Aiken County teachers surprised by WJBF News Channel 6 and sponsors Kroger, Universal Plumbing, and Great Deals on Furniture on Friday, February 13, in her classroom as a recipient of the Golden Apple Award. Her segment will air on WJBF News Channel 6 on Tuesday, February 24 during the 5:30 PM broadcast.
Parliament aims to create a learning environment where everyone can improve and grow their math skills.
“They know that in here it’s ok to be wrong and that I make mistakes too,” Parliament said “They feel, at least I hope they do, that it’s a safe environment for them to be able to make those mistakes and learn and grow from making those mistakes. They are all comfortable raising their hand and answering the questions whether they are right or wrong.”
She also coaches Paul Knox Middle School's Academic Team, a competitive extracurricular activity with a focus on quizzes to showcases a team’s broad knowledge across all subjects. Her team will be headed to Chicago later this year to compete in the National Championships – a back-to-back feat.
"We don’t win every single one of them," she shared, "but we are doing very well in our season. They have built up confidence. A lot of our team, they don’t play sports so they don’t get that competition anywhere else. In the classroom, that’s where they shine and we give them that opportunity so that they can still be competitive if they are like me and suck at every sport ever.”
“Mrs. Parliament is constantly looking for ways to support and praise students at PKMS,” Paul Knox Principal John Bush said. “She really enjoys seeing students succeed and pushes each student in her class to perform at a high level.”
For Mrs. Parliament, she wouldn’t trade her middle school classroom for anything.
“Seventh grade is the best,” she laughs. “They still laugh at my jokes and they still think I’m funny. Once they get to eighth grade they start to think I’m lame. They know how to blow their own nose, do their own thing, and follow directions for the most part. Middle school is the sweet spot.”

This month’s topic: Responsibility
Responsibility means being dependable, making good choices, and doing what you are supposed to do — even when it’s not easy. Together, we’ll talk about ways to help our students grow into responsible leaders at home, at school, and in our community.
We hope to see our Dolphin dads and their students there!

This powerful coming-of-age story is set in North Carolina during the 1960s and follows Relia, a young girl searching for her place to shine during the Civil Rights era. As she navigates important choices and the challenges of a changing world, Relia’s courage, hope, and determination remind us of the importance of standing up for what is right.
The performance brought history to life and helped our students make meaningful connections to the Civil Rights Movement, perseverance, and the power of dreams.
Thank you to the Augusta Players for providing such a meaningful and inspiring experience for our Fifth Grade Dolphins!

Third Grade had an exciting learning adventure this week at the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center on the campus of the University of South Carolina Aiken! 💛💙🐬
Students explored science through hands-on experiences focused on magnets, life cycles, and animal traits. During their visit, they:
Investigated how magnets work through interactive experiments
Learned about life cycles through a computer coding activity
Observed and interacted with live animals, including a salamander, screech owl, and box turtle
This engaging field experience brought science to life and gave our students the opportunity to learn through exploration, discovery, and real-world connections.
What a fantastic day of hands-on learning and discovery for our Third Grade Dolphins!

A special shout-out to our First Grade You Rock Winner, Macy!
Macy always listens, follows directions, and gives her best effort in everything she does. She is a kind and supportive friend to everyone and is truly a joy to have in class. Macy leads by example and shows what it means to be a responsible and caring leader.

Ms. Rogers’ Kindergarten Multilingual Learners small group had a wonderful time rotating through engaging centers that made learning both fun and meaningful. Students practiced important early learning and language skills by:
• Building their names with Play-Doh
• Taking turns being the “teacher” during calendar time
• Sorting objects by color
• Counting and strengthening number skills
These hands-on activities help our young Dolphins build language development, confidence, and strong academic foundations in a supportive and engaging environment.
We are so proud of their hard work and growing skills. Way to go, Dolphins! 💛💙🐬

North Augusta Elementary was proud to recognize our February Habit Heroes at a special breakfast! These students were nominated by their teachers for demonstrating Habit 6: Synergize — working together and valuing the strengths and ideas of others.
What is Habit 6: Synergize?
Synergize means together is better! Students practicing this habit listen to others, respect differences, encourage teamwork, and help their group achieve more than any one person could alone.
Why it matters:
Learning to collaborate builds strong communication skills, positive relationships, and prepares students to be successful leaders, problem-solvers, and teammates.
How families can support Habit 6 at home:
• Encourage teamwork during chores, games, or family projects
• Talk about the importance of listening and respecting different ideas
• Celebrate group successes and how working together made a difference
🌟 Looking Ahead: March Focus – Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw
Habit 7 reminds us to take care of our whole selves by keeping balance in four areas:
Body (exercise, rest, healthy choices)
Brain (reading, learning, creativity)
Heart (kindness, friendships, family time)
Spirit (gratitude, positivity, purpose)
Why Habit 7 is important:
When students take care of themselves and maintain balance, they are happier, healthier, and ready to learn and lead.
Ways families can help:
• Encourage daily reading and learning time
• Support healthy routines for sleep, nutrition, and activity
• Spend time together talking, connecting, and practicing gratitude
• Help children balance schoolwork, activities, and downtime
We are so proud of our February Habit Heroes and grateful for our families and teachers who partner with us to grow student leaders every day!
#NAUESDolphins #LeaderInMe #HabitHeroes #Synergize #SharpenTheSaw 💛💙

Students stepped outside for a nature walk, taking time to slow down, observe, and notice the beauty all around them. From rustling leaves to bright blue skies and tiny details along the way, our young writers gathered inspiration from the world around them.
After their walk, students returned to the classroom and transformed their observations into beautiful haikus—capturing nature’s moments through creativity and thoughtful word choice.
What a wonderful way to combine outdoor learning, mindfulness, and poetry! We are so proud of our Dolphin writers for using their senses and their imaginations to bring nature to life through their words.
