Wagener-Salley Groundbreaking

District leaders, coaches, and community members packed the grounds of Wagener-Salley High School to celebrate the highly anticipated unveiling of the school's brand-new athletic complex –a major milestone for the War Eagle community.

This $15 million dollar project will bring new football, baseball, and softball fields, and an eight-track lane to the campus. The players have been using the fields at the former school location, so players and coaches are anticipating this upgrade.

"The main question I get from players is when is it going to be ready. The seniors last year were a little disappointed that they didn't get to play on it, but the girls this year know that next years the year." said head softball coach Jennifer Starnes.

All of the fields being in the same place makes things more convenient for the players. It saves them from having to travel a mile out just to go practice.

"The middle schoolers can just walk on over to get to practice. High schoolers don't have to get in their car and try to make it to practice on time." said head baseball coach Jake Andrews.

The athletic complex is expected to be completed by Spring 2027.Crowd at the Wagener Salley Groundbreaking.Board member speaks.Dr. Murphy Wagener-Salley Groundbreaking.Dr. Murphy with communityShovels in the dirt.
