Last week was also Nurse Appreciation Week, and we want to celebrate our wonderful Nurse Johnson!

Nurse Johnson works hard every day to help keep our students and staff happy, healthy, and cared for. She has been working to refresh the Nurse’s Office and make it a warm, welcoming, and inviting space for students when they need a little extra care.😷❤️‍🩹

This year, Nurse Johnson also partnered with our Beta Club to hold a hygiene supply drive and create hygiene kits for students who may need them. We are so thankful for the way she supports our students and helps make New Ellenton Middle a caring place to learn and grow.

We are a little behind in sharing this, but we were so excited to learn that our very own NEMS Food Service Manager, Ms. Lorgia Bermudez, was named the Child Nutrition Program’s Manager of the Month for January! ACPSD’s Child Nutrition Program recognized her, highlighting her dedication to students and her positive presence at New Ellenton Middle. Ms. Bermudez does so much to make sure our students are fed, cared for, and ready to learn each day. We are incredibly proud of her and so thankful for everything she and our Food Service ladies do behind the scenes for our school community. Congratulations to our April Teacher of the Month, Coach Jackson, and our April Staff Member of the Month, Ms. Perry! Coach Jackson always brings a smile to our faces and helps us see the bright side of things. His positive attitude and steady presence make a difference in our school each day, and we are grateful for the encouragement and energy he brings to NEMS. Ms. Perry is always willing to jump in and help wherever she is needed. Her support, flexibility, and care for our school community do not go unnoticed. We are also excited to share that Ms. Perry will be joining us in the front office next year as our Student Information Clerk, and she will be one of the friendly faces reaching out to families about attendance and registration. Congratulations, Coach Jackson and Ms. Perry!

Congratulations to NEMS 8th Grade Teacher, Ms. Bashline, on being named the 2026 American Legion Post 26 Teacher of the Year! Ms. Bashline was nominated and recognized for her dedication to New Ellenton Middle School and for the meaningful work she puts into our Veterans Day program each year and for all of the other wonderful things she does to support NEMS students, families, and staff. She goes above and beyond for our students and school community, and we are so proud to see her honored in this way. We also want to thank American Legion Post 26 for supporting educators and recognizing the work happening in our schools. Good evening Wolverine Families--just a reminder that 6th Grade will have SC Ready Science Testing tomorrow. Please make sure laptops are charged tonight and that students are on time tomorrow. Also, phones and personal electronics are not allowed in the testing rooms. Students will be reminded to have any and all devices off and in their book-bags. Congratulations to Emily Doyle, an 8th grade student at NEMS for winning 3rd place in the Middle Level division at the ACPSD Fine Arts Festival!

Emily’s piece, titled “Basquiat,” is a collage of artist Jean-Michel Basquiat’s silhouette. Her artwork was selected from submissions across Aiken County Public Schools and voted on by representatives from the Aiken Center for the Arts.

We are so proud of Emily’s creativity, talent, and hard work, and we also want to recognize her art teacher, Ms. Arellano, for supporting and encouraging our student artists.

We are a little behind in announcing and posting, but our March Faculty and Staff Members of the Month are Ms. Brown, our 6th and 7th grade Math Teacher, and Mr. Hoffmaster, our Media Specialist Assistant! We are so thankful for all of the hard work these two pour into NEMS on a daily basis!
