We are incredibly proud of our Palmetto Girls State and Palmetto Boys State representatives. They were selected through a highly competitive interview process and spent the week participating in an immersive leadership program focused on South Carolina's government and political system. Throughout the week, they took part in a variety of activities, including campaigning and running for elected offices.

The program culminates with a visit to the South Carolina State House in Columbia, where Palmetto Girls State and Palmetto Boys State participants gather to recognize newly elected officers and hear from South Carolina state leaders.

Congratulations to these outstanding students on this remarkable achievement. We are proud of all they have accomplished!

PALMETTO CIVICS PROJECT AN INITIATIVE OF THE SC DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Families are invited to participate in Summer SC 250 activities as South Carolina prepares to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution and our state’s important role in our nation’s history. These summer activities provide meaningful opportunities for students and families to learn, explore, and connect with local and state history. Take part and help celebrate South Carolina’s rich history, heritage, and contributions to our country.

The Palmetto Civics Project is a resource-rich initiative designed to foster students’ understanding of and respect for the institutions that sustain our civic life. Our goal is simple but profound: every South Carolina graduate will leave school prepared to embrace the privileges and the responsibilities of American citizenship.

Valedictorian Kennedy Ryan Rodgers spoke of the lifelong bond she and her fellow North Augusta High School graduates now share—an honor that unites the Yellow Jackets’ Class of 2026 with generations of alumni. Congratulations to this exceptional class of seniors. They leave bonded by the Friday Night Lights, the historic hurricane that reshaped their hometown, the unforgettable memory of their principal riding the BOD squad table at their first pep rally, and all the other moments that helped shape who they are today and who they will become. As President of our Students Against Destructive Decisions (S.A.D.D.) Chapter, Ellen VonAlmen has coordinated many firsts for our chapter this year with advisor, Mrs. Merion, and SC Community Engagement Specialist, Faith Burton. In February, Ellen applied to become a part of S.A.D.D.'s National Student Leadership Council (NSLC). Through an intense application and interview process, Ellen earned another first with a spot on the NSLC representing our State, District, and NAHS. She will be one of twenty-four students from across the nation that will coordinate peer programming on youth health and safety. As part of the NSLC, Ellen will attend their Summit "Back to '81" in Cleveland, Ohio to learn more about leadership in S.A.D.D. and mobility safety.
