Honoring our veterans -
Highland Springs will be honoring our school's community members who have served in the military or those who are currently serving with a Veteran's Day program and Wall of Honor.
This year's Veteran's Day program will be held on November 11 that 2:00pm in the HSMS gym.
We invite our students and community members to share about the veterans in their lives so we can feature them in our Wall of Honor display. To be featured, we ask that interested students pick up a form from Mrs. Jones in D100. Please email the portrait you would like to feature on the wall to cjones6@acpsd.net OR bring it to Mrs. Jones so a copy can be made.
The final day for submissions is November 6th.

Friday: Character Day. Dress up as your favorite book or movie character.

It was our pleasure to host Mr. Will Riddle as our Principal for the Day!
Mr. Riddle is the Pastor at the Steven's Creek North Augusta Campus. He brought his leadership expertise to Highland Springs today - there was nothing he did NOT do as our principal.
From morning announcements, safety checks with our School Resource Officer, sitting in on a meeting with our guidance counselors, inviting students to Fall Intersession, hall duty - Mr. Riddle did it all!

Highland Springs Middle School hosted it's first annual Peace Walk, led by our amazing multilingual students, on Wednesday, September 23rd.
In preparation for this event, Dr. Hays and the multilingual students invited our teachers, staff, and students to create a flag with their own illustrations of what peace meant to them on the back. Our multilingual learners presented their invitation for students to commit to making Highland Springs a more peaceful school by participating in a peace pledge and leading the peace walk around our gymnasium and a portion of our campus.
The peace flag, seen in the second to last picture, was then presented to Highland Spring's administrators. It was hung in the front entrance of our school, where some of our student's peace flags are also now displayed, as a reminder of this event and our school's commitment to peace, kindness, and building community.
We hope this peace walk was the first of many - it was a truly special event! THANK YOU so much to our multilingual students for organizing and leading this event.

Today we celebrated AVID Day with a special collaborative field trip with our Yearbook students to SRP Park! Students had the opportunity to go behind the scenes, learn about the many different careers and jobs that help make SRP Park run, and see how their interests and skills can connect to future career opportunities.
We also reflected on the impact of AVID by completing the statement “Because of AVID, I am...” Students shared how AVID has helped them grow, set goals, build confidence, stay organized, and believe in what’s possible.

At yesterday's faculty meeting, Mrs. Bennett passed on the Highland Springs "You Rock" award to our amazing art teacher, Mrs. Hargrove.
Mrs. Bennett shared a touching presentation to celebrate everything Mrs. Hargrove does to make Highland Springs a better school - including beautifying our hallways by showing off the work of her talented art students.

Students will have several opportunities throughout the semester to earn tickets for exciting prizes, including a 50-inch television! Tickets can be earned by meeting weekly i-Ready expectations, exceeding expectations on CFAs, demonstrating growth on the Winter i-Ready Diagnostic, scoring a 3 or 4 on an informational or argumentative TDW, and consistently demonstrating the qualities of an outstanding student.
The more students work, grow, and succeed, the more chances they can earn to win!
All earned tickets will be entered into a special drawing held before Christmas, when the winners will be selected. Work hard, stay focused, show growth, and earn your chance to WIN BIG!

Attached includes an opportunity for students to participate in a STEM camp (called Lego Wars) hosted at Highland Springs Middle School during our Fall intersession week.
Participating students will work in teams to design and build a LEGO solution to a real-world environmental problem. They will follow the Engineering Design Process to brainstorm, design, prototype, improve, and present their ideas to local professionals within the CSRA. This is an excellent opportunity for students to apply what they are learning in their classes in a way that reinforces college and career ready skills!

From Riverhawks to Gamecocks...
Attention 8th graders and 6th grade AVID students! HSMS will be taking a field trip to the main campus of the University of South Carolina on Friday, October 16th, 2026! This will be a fun-filled day where we participate in activities, explore the campus, and learn more about this school!
This field trip is FREE and will take place during school hours. Transportation is provided.
Who is eligible?
-8th grade students (First come, first served to the first 35 8th graders who sign up!)
-6th grade AVID students
Please note, 8th grade students must not have any disciplinary incidents and have an 80% or higher in all of their classes to be considered eligible.

WHEN: September 28th -October 1st from 8:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. daily
WHAT: All Aiken County Public School sixth through eighth grade students are invited to participate in ACPSD's CTE Innovation STEM Camp! Students will engage in fun, hands-on STEM challenges, build real world skills, solve problems and discover what they’re capable of creating! Students will select up to three courses to participate in throughout the day where they will learn about of drones, e-sports, robotics and cybersecurity.
WHERE: Schofield Middle School, 224 Kershaw Street, NE Aiken, SC 29801. There is no cost to participate in the camp.
