My Own Books Program

Today, Thursday, March 5, was an exciting and memorable day for third-grade students at North Augusta Elementary School (NAUES) as they participated in the Diana Floyd “My Own Book” Program during our Spring Scholastic Book Fair.

Through this special literacy initiative, every third-grade student had the opportunity to visit the Book Fair and select a free book to take home and keep. Each student received a $15 voucher that could be used to choose any book or combination of books totaling that amount. Many students carefully browsed the shelves, and some savvy shoppers were even able to select more than one book.

This wonderful program is made possible through Public Education Partners (PEP) of Aiken County, whose mission is to support and strengthen public education by providing meaningful opportunities for students. Thanks to the generosity of PEP and their many community sponsors, every third-grade student in Aiken County is given the chance to choose a book of their own during their school’s Book Fair.

In addition to their new books, students also received a book bag provided by META, giving them a special way to carry their new stories home.

North Augusta Elementary is incredibly grateful to share that this is the third year our school has been selected as a sponsored school for this program. Experiences like this help students build excitement about reading and reinforce the importance of literacy at an early age.

Watching our Dolphins explore the Book Fair, thoughtfully select their books, and leave with smiles and stories in hand was a wonderful reminder of how powerful access to books and literacy opportunities can be. Programs like “My Own Book” help foster a lifelong love of reading and support student success both in and out of the classroom.

NAUES would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Public Education Partners of Aiken County and the many generous sponsors who made this opportunity possible for our students:
