North Augusta Elementary School proudly recognized outstanding students at our February Habit Hero Breakfast. These students were nominated by their teachers for demonstrating Habit 6: Synergize, one of the leadership habits from our Leader in Me program.
February Focus: Habit 6 – Synergize
Synergize means working together to achieve more than we could accomplish alone. It teaches students to value differences, listen to others’ ideas, and collaborate respectfully to solve problems and reach shared goals.
When students practice Habit 6, they learn that:
Everyone has strengths and unique talents.
Teamwork leads to stronger ideas and better results.
Respectful communication helps build positive relationships.
Differences should be celebrated, not avoided.
Why Habit 6 is Important
Synergy prepares students for success in school and beyond. Whether working on group projects, participating in activities, or building friendships, the ability to collaborate, compromise, and appreciate others helps students become confident leaders and responsible citizens.
How Parents and Teachers Can Support Habit 6
Encourage children to work with siblings or classmates on shared tasks.
Talk about the value of listening to others’ ideas, even when they are different.
Model teamwork and respectful communication at home and in the classroom.
Celebrate group successes and discuss how working together made the outcome better.
Provide opportunities for collaborative problem-solving and decision-making.
We are so proud of our February Habit Heroes who demonstrated leadership by working cooperatively, encouraging others, and helping their teams succeed!
Looking Ahead: Habit 7 – Sharpen the Saw
In March, our school will focus on Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw. This habit reminds students to take care of their whole selves by balancing their time and energy in four key areas:
Body – Exercise, nutrition, and rest
Brain – Learning, reading, and creativity
Heart – Building relationships and showing kindness
Spirit – Finding purpose, gratitude, and positivity
Why Habit 7 is Important
Students who take time to recharge and care for themselves are healthier, happier, and better prepared to learn and lead. This habit helps prevent burnout and builds lifelong skills for wellness and balance.
How Parents and Teachers Can Support Habit 7
Encourage regular routines for sleep, healthy meals, and physical activity.
Set aside daily reading or learning time.
Create opportunities for family connection and meaningful conversations.
Practice gratitude and reflection together.
Help students balance schoolwork, activities, and downtime.
At North Augusta Elementary, we believe leadership grows one habit at a time. Thank you to our families and teachers for partnering with us to help our students become confident leaders who work well with others and take care of themselves.
Congratulations to our February Habit Heroes!
