National Bullying Prevention Month

October is National Bullying Prevention Month, a time for families and schools to stand together for kindness, respect, and inclusion. At North Augusta Elementary, we believe every child deserves to feel safe, seen, and valued—both in school and beyond.

What Is Bullying?

Bullying is repeated, unwanted, and aggressive behavior that involves a power imbalance. It can be physical (hitting or pushing), verbal (teasing or threats), social (spreading rumors or excluding others), or online (cyberbullying).

How Parents Can Help

Experts say parents play the most powerful role in prevention. Here are a few quick tips:

  • Talk daily: Ask open-ended questions like “Who did you sit with at lunch today?” or “Did anything make you feel uncomfortable?”

  • Model respect: Show kindness in your own words and actions—children notice.

  • Teach empathy and confidence: Practice calm, assertive phrases like “Please stop, that’s not kind.”

  • Monitor online use: Know what apps your child uses and encourage kindness online.

  • Partner with the school: Report concerns early and work together on solutions.

What Students Can Do

We remind students that they are not alone—and their voices matter:

  1. Speak up and tell a trusted adult.

  2. Be kind and include others.

  3. Stay calm and walk away from unsafe situations.

  4. Report bullying right away—silence allows it to continue.

Working Together

Bullying stops when we all take a stand for kindness. Together, we can ensure that every Dolphin feels welcome, respected, and safe at school each day. 💛💙🐬
