North Augusta Elementary is excited to celebrate our August Habit Hero winners, recognized today, August 29, 2025, for demonstrating the first Leader in Me Habit: Be Proactive! One student from each class was selected as a role model for taking initiative, showing responsibility, and leading the way for others.
What does it mean to Be Proactive?
Being proactive is all about making good choices, even when no one is watching. Proactive students take responsibility for their actions, attitudes, and learning. Instead of blaming others or waiting for things to happen, they look for positive ways to solve problems and make things better.
What does this look like at school?
Completing classwork without being reminded
Using kind words and actions to help others
Staying calm and making good choices, even when challenges come up
Taking charge of their own learning by asking questions and trying their best
When our students are proactive, they set the tone for a positive classroom environment and show leadership in everyday situations.
How can parents encourage proactivity at home?
Parents play an important role in reinforcing this habit! Here are some simple ways to help children practice being proactive outside of school:
Encourage them to do chores or homework without reminders.
Talk about making good choices when things don’t go as planned.
Praise their efforts when they show responsibility and initiative.
Model proactivity by sharing times when you take action instead of waiting for someone else to solve a problem.
Celebrating our Habit Heroes reminds us that leadership starts with small, everyday choices. We are so proud of our students for embracing this first habit and leading by example. Congratulations to all of our August Habit Heroes – you are making waves as Dolphin Leaders! 💛💙🐬
