3 Girls with guns for skeet tournament.

The North Augusta High School Clay Target team had a historic weekend at the SC DNR Skeet and Trap championships held at the NWTF Palmetto Range in Edgefield, South Carolina on May 2 and 3.

The JV Ladies’ squad completed their 2025 triple crown winning both the Trap and Skeet state championships.  These two trophies complete the sweep of the podium as they had previously won the Sporting Clays championship in March.

The JV Boys won the 2025 Trap State Championship by 5 broken targets over a very strong field that included Barnwell, Lewisville, Clover, and Anderson.  These same freshmen students had won third place in 2024 competing for Paul Knox MS continuing our pipeline of success from the PKMS to NAHS Clay Target program.

The Varsity Ladies’ won the first-ever trophies for the program in the Varsity Ladies’ division claiming third place in both Trap and Skeet.  These same students won the first-ever Ladies’ division trophy two years ago with a third-place finish in the JV Sporting Clays championship.

Three graduating seniors won a combined $4000 in SC DNR scholarships for placements in the Senior Varsity School division.  Matthew Williams broke a personal record of 47 out of 50 targets to finish second overall in the Boys Senior Varsity School division earning a $1500 scholarship.  Katie Gillespie also won a $1500 scholarship finishing second overall in the Ladies’ Senior Varsity School division while her teammate Keely Herrington claimed a $1000 scholarship for her third overall finish in the Ladies’ Senior Varsity School division.

Sophomore Ellie Williams broke 45 out of 50 targets both days and earned individual state champion honors in both Trap and Skeet as she led the NA JV Ladies to this historic triple crown.  Ellie was just two broken targets out of the top spot in Sporting Clays in March to narrowly miss a personal triple crown sweep of individual state titles.

Freshman Colton Taylor finished tied for first in Trap breaking 44 out of 50 targets and then fell just short of an individual state championship by one broken clay in the JV Boys School Division shoot off.

Please congratulate these students when you see them and know they represented your school very well at the DNR championships.  I could not be any happier for the way our North Augusta HS Clay Target team has continued to learn, grow, and compete in shotgun competition.  Thank you for supporting these exceptional student-athletes.
