NAHS JV Ladies win Sporting Clays State Championship; Herrington and Williams earn DNR Scholarships
Saturday, March 8 was a very successful day at the NWTF Palmetto Range in Edgefield for the North Augusta HS Clay Target team.
The event was the Sporting Clays championship (think golf with a shotgun) and the NAHS students battled the winds, dust, blinding sunlight, ammo malfunctions, and a very strong field to earn awards and scholarships on the day.
The NAHS JV Ladies’ squad of EvieJo Rick, Emma Sherman, and Ellie Williams captured a SC DNR State championship in Sporting Clays by two broken targets over Thomas Sumter Academy 184 to 182. Ellie Williams broke a team-high 73 out of 100 targets and placed second overall in the JV Ladies’ School Division.
Seniors Keely Herrington and Matthew Williams each earned $1000 SC DNR Senior Scholarships during the event.
Matthew Williams broke 86 out of 100 clays for the Jackets and finished in 20th place overall in the Varsity School Division. The Varsity Boy’s squad of Williams, Cullen Craig, and Luke Waldhauer finished in 14th place in the school division.
Reed Wallace broke 83 out of 100 clays for the Jackets ad finished in 11th place overall in the JV School Division. The JV Boy’s squad of Wallace, Tate Johnson, and Colton Taylor finished in 7th place in the school division.
The SC DNR Skeet and Trap State Championships are in early May and NAHS will send several squads in three different divisions to the event with more trophies and scholarships on the line.
WAY TO GO JACKETS!
