Cocky's Reading Express Visits Jefferson Elementary School

On Friday, October 17th, Jefferson Elementary School welcomed some very special guests—University of South Carolina students and their beloved mascot, Cocky! As part of the Cocky's Reading Express literacy outreach program, the visit aimed to inspire a lifelong love of reading among young students.

The day was filled with excitement as students gathered to enjoy interactive story presentations led by USC student volunteers and Cocky himself. The energetic readings brought the stories to life and had everyone laughing, listening, and fully engaged. Each student also had the chance to select a free book to take home and keep—a special reminder of the day's message: reading is fun!

Adding to the excitement, a few lucky students were chosen to go head-to-head with Cocky in a fun-filled push-up competition, which brought lots of cheers and smiles from the crowd. At the end of the presentation, all students made a promise—to read every day and keep exploring new stories.

To commemorate the visit, every class had their picture taken with Cocky, capturing the joy and energy of a memorable day. Jefferson Elementary is grateful for the opportunity to host Cocky's Reading Express and is proud to continue encouraging its students to read, learn, and grow.
