On Tuesday, Sept. 1, Aiken County Public Schools officially broke ground on much awaited renovations to South Aiken High School. These additions were made possible with the 2024 One Percent Penny Sales Tax and will include campus expansions, new building spaces, and updates to athletic facilities.
Expanded learning spaces will include an expanded culinary kitchen, modern facilities for welding and agriculture, improved Special Education spaces as well as expanded NJORTC and athletics facilities. The campus will also gain a secure entrance, improved traffic flow and a brighter learning environment.
"Today marks the beginning of work that will strengthen South Aiken High School and serve generations of Thoroughbreds to come." Superintendent Dr. Corey Murphy shared. "It is exciting to see this long-awaited project to move forward, and I am proud that we are doing it together."
"Thirty-five years ago, I left this school as a graduate. Today, I'm proud to help build what's next." Board of Education Chairman Cameron Nuessle said. "My hope is that the students who walk through these doors know one simple thing: This community looked at your future and decided you were worth it."
South Aiken's groundbreaking wouldn't be possible without the valuable community input and collaboration with HG Reynolds, CFS Architects, as well as South Aiken and District leadership teams. These long-awaited improvements will provide South Aiken students with modern and updated spaces to learn, grown, and thrive for years to come.
"This project is about much more than bricks, concrete and steel. It is about opportunity. It is about creating learning environments that inspire curiosity, collaboration, innovation and success." South Aiken High School principal Samuel Fuller shared. "The spaces that we will be building today will support generations of students as they discover their talents, pursue their dreams and prepare to make a positive impact on the world."
