AIKEN — Aiken Chamber of Commerce's annual “State of Our Community” event on Aug. 19 comprised overviews of the Savannah River Site, the City of Aiken, Aiken County Government, the Aiken County Public School District and regional entrepreneurship.
Aiken County Public School District Superintendent Corey Murphy said the district’s five priorities are academic achievement, producing graduates ready for the future, retaining personnel, providing safe and supportive school environments, and strengthening community engagement through effective communication.
He said the district is updating its strategic plan to ensure “that the decisions we make today prepare us for the Aiken County of tomorrow.”
“The students entering kindergarten this year will graduate into a world that looks very different from the one we know today. Our responsibility is to prepare them for that future and to ensure our school system is ready for it,” Murphy said.
“The future of Aiken County is sitting in our classrooms right now. Preparing those students for what comes next is the work of the school district, and it cannot and should not be done alone. When our schools, businesses, communities, and families work together, we do more than prepare students for successful futures,” he said. “We strengthen the future of Aiken County.”
