AIKEN — One local elementary school is starting the school year off with a new gym. Significantly, it is the school’s first gym in its 90-year history.
J.D. Lever Elementary School P.E. Coach Mark Bolton spoke about the transformative update on a Friday morning as a class of third graders was using the new space to play basketball.
“I’ve had a permanent grin ever since the lion got put on the side of the building, and I realized that I was going to be in here this year. It just felt wonderful,” he said. “Not just for me because I get to teach the kids in this great space, but for the kids, because, I mean, as you can see, they love being in here and having all the things that we have available to us now.”
