Byrd Elementary Assistant Principal named Next Principal

The Aiken County Public School District Board of Education has approved Kyle Davis as the next principal of Byrd Elementary School. Davis will assume his new role in July 2026, following the retirement of longtime principal Renee Enlow on June 30.

Davis currently serves as assistant principal at Byrd Elementary, a role he has held since 2022. He joined the district in October 2022 as interim assistant principal and was later named to the position full-time. During his tenure, he has played a key role in supporting school operations, strengthening instructional practices, and fostering a positive school culture for students and staff.

“Becoming the principal of Byrd Elementary is both an incredible honor and a responsibility that I take very seriously,” Davis shared. “Byrd has been home for me for the past four school years, and I care deeply about the students, families, and staff who make this school such a special place. This role means continuing the strong culture and traditions that already exist while also helping our school grow so every student is successful.”

As assistant principal, Davis has led key initiatives including student discipline and support systems, teacher evaluation and coaching, master scheduling, and coordination of school safety efforts. He has also served as the school’s 504 and MTSS coordinator, site test coordinator, and chair of the safety committee, while supporting transportation, budgeting, and intersession programming.

Prior to joining Byrd Elementary, Davis served as an instructional coach with the Bossier Parish School Board in his home state of Louisiana, where he facilitated professional development and supported data-driven instructional planning. He also served as a summer school site administrator and spent eight years in the classroom teaching multiple elementary grade levels.

“My time in the classroom and working alongside teachers has shaped how I approach leadership,” Davis said. “I understand the daily work of educators and the importance of supporting them so they can focus on what matters most—helping students learn and grow.”

Davis holds a Master of Educational Leadership from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, a Master of Arts in Elementary Education from Louisiana Tech University, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Northwestern State University. His professional certifications include Cognitive Coaching, LETRS, ADEPT, and completion of the South Carolina Department of Education’s Instructional Leadership Academy.

Looking ahead, Davis is eager to build on the strong foundation established at Byrd Elementary.

“Mrs. Enlow has created a school culture that values relationships, high expectations, and a deep commitment to students, and I look forward to continuing that work,” Davis said. “My goal is to keep building strong partnerships with our families and staff so every child feels supported, challenged, and proud to be a Byrdie.”

District leadership expressed confidence in Davis’ ability to lead the school into its next chapter.

“We are excited to see Mr. Davis step into this role at Byrd Elementary,” Chief Officer of Instruction Dr. Amy Edwards shared. “His experience, strong relationships, and commitment to student success position him well to build on the school’s strong foundation and continue moving Byrd forward.”
