North Augusta boys’ and girls’ basketball teams aimed to make history this year at the South Carolina High School League basketball state championships – and they delivered! In back-to-back appearances for both programs, the Jackets swept the Class 4A state titles on Saturday, March 7, in Columbia.
“It’s amazing. It's a wonderful thing for a community. I think the thing that I love the most is our communities come together as one town, cheering on our teams, and we've seen when it happens when a town comes together and rallies behind our kids,” North Augusta High School principal Casey Rogers said. “I'm just so thankful for our coaches, our students, our community and all the support they've given us over the years. It's been a long time coming.”
The girl’s played a hard -fought game against Westside High School (Anderson, SC), securing a 63-50 victory. This marks the seventh state championship title in a single decade for the Lady Jackets.
“I think it's exciting and any time you win back-to-back state championships is special. I think it says a lot about our kids,” North Augusta girls basketball head coach Al Young said. “Our players aren’t complacent and could have stopped working but, they didn't.”
The boys’ basketball team faced off against South Pointe High School (Rock Hill, SC) in a thriller that pushed into double overtime. The Jackets secured the programs first- ever state title with a 64-56 win, following last year's heart-breaking loss in the state championship game.
“It was a big-time win for our program, but our kids knew going in that we were capable of winning that game, and when we went out and we played our best that night, and we won,” North Augusta boys basketball coach Tony Harrell said. “It gave us great hope to finish this thing as strong as we did this year.”
As celebrations continue in North Augusta, the impact of this 'double-championship' Saturday extends far beyond the court. With two trophies secured and a town swelling with pride, the 2025-2026 season will be remembered as the year the Jackets didn't just play for a title, they played for each other. These two teams have set a new standard of excellence for generations and proved exactly what it means to 'Lock It In'.
