North Augusta High School recently had a few surprise visitors. Brad Means from WJBF News Channel 6, together with sponsors Kroger, Universal Plumbing, and Great Deals on Furniture showed up at the school to present Dr. Richard Ball with the Golden Apple Award.
Dr. Ball teaches math at North Augusta High School, and this is not his first time being recognized for his accomplishments in teaching. He was named the NAHS First Year Teacher of the Year for the 2018-2019 school year. He was awarded his first Golden Apple for excellence in teaching in February 2021.
“Dr. Ball represents exactly what this profession is about. He challenges our AP Calculus students to think deeper, push harder, and reach higher, while at the same time meeting Algebra I students right where they are and refusing to let them give up on themselves," NAHS Principal Casey Rogers said. "That range is rare. He makes advanced mathematics accessible and struggling students confident. The WJBF Golden Apple Award is well deserved—our school is stronger because of his commitment to every learner who walks into his classroom.”
“I think watching them grow is the pleasure of the job," Dr. Richard Ball said. "Yes, it would be fantastic if we all got A’s but it’s the person they become in the room. It’s great for all of us to achieve greatness, but it’s the person and the journey that is more important.”
You can watch his interview with WJBF News Channel 6 Tuesday, February 17th during the 5:30pm newscast.
