We are thrilled to honor Aiken Elementary Principal Kristie Brooks as the winner of the Robert E. Alexander Outstanding Administrator of the Year award. The STEM-focuses award was presented by Dr. Gary Senn from the USC Aiken Ruth Patrick Science Education Center during the January 13, 2026 Board of Education meeting.
Brooks was chosen as this year’s recipient after an extensive review process by the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center Advisory Board. Award recipients are chosen from the CSRA and actively promote RSPEC resources to meet STEM education standards. The award was created in honor of former USC Aiken chancellor Dr. Robert E. Alexander who was vital in the creation of the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center and a strong advocate for STEM education.
"STEM is ubiquitous in our society and our personal lives," Dr. Gary Senn, Director of the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center said. "As our country continues to advance and lead in STEM, we need to develop the next generation of STEM leaders by infusing a love for STEM in our young people. By honoring Kristie Brooks for the Alexander Award, we are promoting STEM Education in our region."
Aiken Elementary adds STEAM educational concepts to the classroom with problem-solving and hands-on learning experiences.
"True growth happens when students are encouraged to move, challenge their thinking, solve problems, and create," Kristie Brooks said. "STEAM provides the engagement and excitement necessary for this to happen."
"I'm honored by this recognition, but while my name might be on the award, the credit truly belongs to our incredible students and staff," Brooks said. "My team works tirelessly to bring STEAM to live, and our goal remains simple: to keep students questioning, exploring, and loving every minute of their learning."
USC Aiken is one of our community education partners, who strives to bring high quality education to the CSRA.
