WAGENER, S.C. — It’s another exciting week of high school football, but on Varsity Drive, we’re taking you beyond the Friday night lights to spotlight the stories happening off the field.

Each week, FOX54 highlights one school from South Carolina and one from Georgia, giving viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the programs shaping students’ futures. This week, we’re heading to Wagener-Salley High School, where sparks are flying—in the welding lab!

Led by instructor Richard Bailey, the school’s Welding Program is part of a broader initiative supported by Aiken Works, which helps students gain hands-on experience in high-demand career fields. Students shared how they got into welding and what the program means to them, with many expressing excitement about building real-world skills while still in high school.
