SAHS student Adriana Sansonese receives WJBF's Scholar Athlete Award.

AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF) — It’s Scholar Athlete of the Week time once again, and we have a phenomenal student-athlete to tell you about this week.

Adriana Sansonese is the South Aiken Thoroughbreds’ soccer standout who’s excelling in more places than just on the pitch.

As far as athletic accolades go, she’s a four-year starter for the T-Breds and is a SCHSL All-Region performer. Sansonese also netted the 2024 Defensive Player of the Year honor, helping South Aiken to a state playoff berth.

Beyond that, she’s a member of the National Honor Society and an award-winning member and officer of DECA. She serves as Yearbook staff editor, and as numerous as her achievements are, her success has surprised no one.

Adriana says she plans to attend USC-Columbia and will major in criminal justice with a minor in forensics. Her desire is to become a blood spotter analyst.

She was almost choked up at the support she received alongside her latest accolade.

“This means so much to me,” she said. “Especially with everybody supporting me here. I could cry because I’m just so grateful for my teammates, my club members, my friends, my family and my coach. It’s just amazing.”
