Students recognized for exemplary test scores

Members of the Aiken County Board of Education recognized a group of seventh grade students prior to the September 25, 2018 Board Meeting for earning the Duke TIP 7th Grade Talent Search award. These 12 students hail from five middle schools in the County, and have shown exemplary test scores in their academic careers. This award identifies students across the United States who have scored at or above the 95th percentile on a grade-level standardized test.

As part of the program, these academically talented students take above-level college-entrance exams to learn more about their abilities. Duke TIP then hosts annual recognition ceremonies to honor the seventh graders who scored the highest on these ACT or SAT exams.

There are two awards given by Duke TIP each year; the State Recognition Award and the Grand Recognition Award. To qualify for the State Recognition Award students must earn scores that are approximately equal to the 50th national percentile rank for college-bound seniors taking the tests. To qualify for the Grand Recognition Award students must earn scores that are approximately equal to the 90th national percentile rank for college-bound seniors taking the tests.

Congratulations to the following students who earned the State Recognition Award:

Kathryn Worrell, Leavelle-McCampbell Middle School; Margaret Davisson, Hannah Contardi, Zane Leigh, Mason Royals, and Madelyn Royals, all of Kennedy Middle School; Eowyn Garman, Kennedy Middle School; Benjamin Burch, Paul Knox Middle School; Anna Matson, Schofield Middle School; Rachel Wood, Aiken Middle School; Johnathan Anderson, Paul Knox Middle School and Joshua Noyce, Paul Knox Middle School.

In addition to these State Recognition Award recipients, Margaret Davisson and Anna Matson also earned the Grand Recognition Award. Congratulations to all!
