Kindergarten Registration Now Open

Registration for next school year’s kindergarten classes is underway in Aiken County Public Schools.

Classes for 5K kindergarten are open to any child residing in Aiken County who is 5 years old, or will be 5 by Sept. 1. Parents or guardians of future kindergarten students can create a PowerSchool account and register online now.

An announcement about 5K registration and a link to “Create Account” and register online is displayed on acpsd.net. The 5K Registration information is also available under the drop down menu About Us > 5K Registration.

Aiken County Public Schools offers full-day kindergarten from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and has extended day after-school care available at all schools.

The district’s kindergarten curriculum is literacy-focused and designed to allow small group activities. With a small student to teacher ratio and technology-rich classrooms each supported by a certified teacher and full-time aide, Aiken County Public Schools is well prepared to offer the nurturing environment kindergarten students deserve, according to a news release from the district.

Parents of rising 5K kindergarten students will have more choices than ever before as Aiken County Public Schools implements additional thematic programs in its elementary schools, according to the release.

Thematic programs are available to students served in each school’s attendance zone, and to students who apply and are accepted to transfer for these unique academic opportunities.

East Aiken School of the Arts, Aiken County’s nationally recognized arts-infused elementary magnet school, and a focus on leadership through Leader in Me programming are just a few of the thematic programs available at a number of elementary schools.

Launching in 2019 are several offerings for world language immersion, with programs being implemented at Belvedere Elementary in North Augusta, Clearwater Elementary in Graniteville, and Millbrook Elementary in Aiken.

Families interested in World Language Immersion Programs can attend an information session from 6:30 to7:30 p.m. May 30 at Belvedere, Clearwater or Millbrook elementary schools.

Aiken County’s three elementary schools offering world language immersion will each begin with a small cohort limited to 28 kindergarten students. Parents/guardians interested in the World Language offerings or enrollment at East Aiken School of the Arts should register early because space is extremely limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
