School District Will Establish Committee And Gather Community Input To Name New Adult Education Facility

Members of the Aiken County Board of Education, during Tuesday’s regularly scheduled meeting, approved a request by school district administration to outline a process for naming Aiken County Public Schools’ new Adult Education facility to be located off of Jefferson Davis Highway and near the campus of Aiken Technical College.

The facility is expected to open in August.

“In award-winning fashion, the Aiken County Public Schools Adult Education Department has provided thousands of people in our community with free opportunities to improve upon their education and secure life-sustaining careers,” commented Dr. Shawn Foster, Chief Officer of Operations and Student Services for the school district. “We look forward to gathering the ideas and suggestions of our stakeholders as we move through the naming process.”

In accordance with board policy regarding the naming of school district facilities, the District will establish a Naming Committee to review community feedback and to submit recommendations for consideration by Aiken County school board members.

An online survey link for stakeholder submissions is available HERE. The survey link may also be accessed from the home page of the school district’s website, located at www.acpsd.net. The deadline for community suggestions and contributions for the naming of the new adult education facility is Monday, June 11, at 5:00 p.m.

Members of the Naming Committee will review all submissions, using them to compile formal recommendations for the school board’s future consideration. Once members of the school board have selected a name for the facility, that choice will be released to school district media partners, community members and stakeholders.
