The calendar has turned to a new year and free opportunities are available for adult residents who have a goal to complete or expand their education and secure a life-sustaining career.
Beginning on Monday, January 7, the award-winning Aiken County Adult Education Center, now located at 2432 Jefferson Davis Highway in Graniteville near Aiken Technical College, will accept new students Monday through Thursday of each week.
While many adult students have successfully completed their programs with the support of the Aiken County Adult Education Center’s dedicated staff members, this opens new doors for even more students to take advantage of free classes, assessments and career services.
“Many of our students have found success using our programs, they have graduated and moved on to the next phase of their educational journey, or on to new careers. This opens up a great window of opportunity to others in the community who could also benefit from the free services we provide,” stated Pat Keating, Aiken County Adult Education Center Director. “We have a beautiful new facility and look forward to welcoming new and returning students next week.”
Just a few of the many programs offered through the Aiken County Adult Education Center include career readiness certification through the WIN program; the General Educational Development Test (GED); English second language literacy and civics classes; high school diploma completion; and literacy and adult basic education instruction.
All programs and services offered by the center are free.
“No matter what level of education a student has reached, we can help them succeed and connect them with a career that will sustain them through life and serve to improve the lives of their families,” Keating said. “We also pay for every assessment, which includes the GED, so it completely free to our students no matter what program they may register for.”
Additionally, the Aiken County Adult Education Center offers online learning and instruction from a staff of full-time educators.
“We work hard to ensure that our students are set up for success, whether that means a military career or another career immediately following our programs, or on to secondary degree programs,” Keating commented.
The Aiken County Adult Education Center also offers free educational opportunities at a number of offsite locations in Aiken County, including GED and WIN classes at the Goodwill Job Connection on Pine Log Road in Aiken and Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Gloverville; GED, high school diploma and WIN classes at Wagener-Salley High School in Wagener; and English second language at St. John's United Methodist Church in Aiken.
