Grandparents hold a special place in the lives of children. They cheer us on, share stories, and offer the kind of love and encouragement that never goes out of style. Over the past week, schools all across Aiken County opened their doors to celebrate Grandparents Day in fun and meaningful ways.
At East Aiken School of the Arts, families gathered for Games with Grandparents on Tuesday and Wednesday. Laughter filled the rooms as grandparents and grandchildren teamed up for board games like Uno, Memory, Tic Tac Toe, and Yahtzee while enjoying a snack together.
Redcliffe Elementary stretched its celebration over three days of Grandparents Day Lunches. The cafeteria was alive with smiles, hugs, and chatter as students proudly welcomed their grandparents to school and shared a meal.
At Chukker Creek Elementary, the celebration paired lunch with a trip to the Book Fair, where grandparents and grandchildren browsed the shelves and picked out books to enjoy together.
North Aiken Elementary hosted more than 150 grandparents on Friday for a special luncheon that included coloring activities and a “Words of Wisdom” wall, where grandparents left heartfelt notes for their grandchildren. The school also recognized its foster grandparent volunteers who give their time and love to students all year long.
At Ridge Spring-Monetta Elementary, breakfast gatherings encouraged grandparents not only to share a meal, but also to pass down stories, traditions, values, and advice. Each received a keepsake pen as a reminder of their important role in the lives of their grandchildren.
Aiken Elementary School welcomed families for Breakfast and Books on Wednesday and Thursday. Grandparents joined their grandchildren for a morning meal before exploring the Book Fair together, making new memories while turning pages side by side.
And that’s just a snapshot—many other schools across the district hosted their own special events, each one filled with joy, laughter, and appreciation for the role grandparents play.
Though the details of each event looked a little different, the heart behind them was the same: honoring the love, wisdom, and steady support that grandparents provide. These celebrations were a reminder of how much stronger our school communities are with grandparents woven into the life of each child’s school experience.
