Aiken iNNOVATE students seek an alternative to the traditional bell-to-bell school day and prefer a learning environment that offers more freedom and independence. To better support these needs, Aiken iNNOVATE is updating its live session schedule beginning in July.
Students will now follow an A/B schedule for live sessions:
Some classes will meet on A Days (Mondays and Wednesdays)
Others will meet on B Days (Tuesdays and Thursdays)
Fridays will continue to be flex days for personalized academic support and time to catch up on coursework or meet with teachers for individual help.
To help explain this change, we’ve created a short video with an example schedule, which you’ll find below.
Under this new model, our courses will function more like a flipped classroom rather than a traditional lecture-based format. Students will complete most of their learning—videos, readings, studying, and review—on their own. Live sessions will focus on support, clarification, and tackling more complex parts of the course.
All live sessions will still be recorded and available for students to watch at any time. This ensures students can revisit instruction as needed, reinforcing learning and helping them stay focused on completing their work.
This approach gives students and families the flexibility they want while maintaining strong academic expectations. However, it also means students must manage their time well and stay consistently engaged to avoid falling behind.
To support students and Learning Coaches with planning and organization, teachers will post weekly assignments at the start of each week. These will appear in Schoology under the "Upcoming Assignments" section, making it easier for families to plan and ensure students carve out time to complete everything on schedule.
While this change may take a little getting used to, we believe it will provide the right balance of structure and flexibility, helping students thrive in a rigorous virtual learning environment.
