Dr. Tim Yarborough Earns Increased Supervisory Role as District's Director of Maintenance and Operations
Aiken County Public Schools has named longtime administrator Dr. Tim Yarborough as the school district’s new Director of Maintenance, removing an interim title he has held since July 1 of this year following the departure of former maintenance director Kip Gunter who accepted a new role with the City of Aiken. His new position as Director of Maintenance and Operations reflects these responsibilities, as he has served as Director of Operations since January, 2017.
Prior to being named as interim Director of Maintenance, Dr. Yarborough worked extensively alongside the maintenance department on a variety of projects, providing the insight needed to excel in his new role.
As the school district’s Director of Maintenance and Operations, Dr. Yarborough develops school and district safety initiatives, oversees the School Resource Officer program, and addresses district energy conservation needs, among other operations-related duties. Under his leadership, the District is projected to spend $1,000,000 less in 2019 on utilities expenditures than in 2018. With his expanded role, he will oversee maintenance within Aiken County Public Schools, including the exterior and interior upkeep of all school district properties, and the school district’s custodial program.
“I am very appreciative and blessed to have been granted the opportunity to assume these new responsibilities in my expanded role,” commented Dr. Yarborough. “I see maintenance and operations as the behind-the-scenes work that must be done to support our educational mission. We exist to support the professionals in our schools so they can focus their efforts on educating our students.”
Throughout a career in education of more than two decades, the former Aiken County graduate has demonstrated unwavering dedication and commitment to the school district. He holds an undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina Aiken, Master’s and Educational Specialist degrees from the University of South Carolina Columbia, and a Doctoral Degree from Georgia Southern University. After serving as a Social Studies Teacher, and, later, Assistant Principal of Butler High School in Augusta, Dr. Yarborough returned home to Aiken County in the year 2000 as Principal of Wagener-Salley High School.
Dr. Yarborough has served as a District administrator since 2006, previously serving as the Assistant Superintendent for Area 3, and later Director of High Schools. Under the guidance of Dr. Yarborough, Aiken County’s high schools flourished as graduation rates soared. US News and World Report named Aiken High number 13 in the state, South Aiken received a National Blue Ribbon Award, Midland Valley established an Early College Program in collaboration with Aiken Technical College, and North Augusta High and South Aiken High partnered with the National Math + Science Initiative to become Advanced Placement Academies.
