New Student Opportunities at Aiken Middle School

AMS Gators

 Attention Gator Parents and Students,

We’ve had a terrific start to the school year and are certainly headed in the right direction. Faculty and students are consistently demonstrating our SWAMP expectations and are coming to school every day with absolutely positive attitudes. To continue this positive culture, I’d like for you to be aware of some opportunities for your student to get involved. Listed below are the following clubs/initiatives going on this year in the swamp:

  Brand New to the Swamp:

AMS Step Team – Interest Meeting Monday September 12th from 3:30 to 4:30. Contact AMS, Taneika McDowell for interest or questions.

MathCounts Academic Team and Video Competition – Students who are mathematically interested and inclined contact Ms. McCord to    learn about this new opportunity.

Future City – Do you like building things? Like playing Minecraft? Do you have an engineering-based perspective or talents? Students with     these interests and talents have an opportunity to participate in building a virtual city and then an actual city model. Students who are interested and inclined may contact Mr. Ordelt or Ms. Landaverde to learn about this new opportunity.

Science Projects / Science Fair – Is science your niche? Do you like hands-on activities and understanding your world through the lens of how the components work together? AMS will have a school-wide science fair and scientifically gifted and interested students have an opportunity to work on a science project team as a part of the Science Project Club. Students who are interested and inclined may contact Mrs. Lord or Mrs. McDowell to learn about this new opportunity.

My Campus Committee – Bullying is an issue in middle schools. Early adolescents pick and play and hurt each other’s feelings sometimes intentionally and other times unintentionally. My Campus Committee is a student group who find creative ways to put a stop to student bullying. If interested in being a part of this group, contact Mr. Underwood or Ms. Hammonds our AMS school counselors.

SWAMP TV – Everything we do at AMS this year is framed by our swamp expectations – show respect, willing to learn, accept responsibility, maintain self-control, and positive environment. To continue to encourage these practices – students belonging to the SWAMP TV club have an opportunity to create, produce, and edit video episodes that are shown to the entire AMS student body. Please have your child contact Mr. Underwood, AMS school counselor if interested
