Byrd Elementary: Title I Parent and Family Engagement Policy 2019 -2020
It is the policy of the administration, faculty, and staff of your child’s school to:
*Involve parents, in an organized, ongoing, and timely way, in the planning, review, and improvement of programs through
School Improvement Council, Title I surveys, and PTO meetings.
*Inform parents of their school’s participation in Title I and explain its requirements by holding an annual Title I meeting during Open House at the beginning of the school year.
*Provide information to parents in a timely manner using the school marquee, monthly newsletters, social media, an automated phone system, and our school website.
*Provide parents with explanations of the school’s overall student achievement and their child’s individual student test results through weekly signed papers, progress reports, individual report cards, and/or our school report card.
*Provide parents a description and explanation of the school’s curriculum, the assessments used to measure student progress, and the ability levels students are expected to meet.
*Offer regular meetings for parents to make suggestions, share experiences, and participate in decisions relating to the education of their child.
*Provide timely responses to parents’ suggestions.
*Develop and distribute a School-Parent Compact.
*Provide parent involvement programs that provide materials and training to help parents work with educators as partners to monitor and improve their child’s achievement.
*Make sure that information related to school and parent programs are sent to the parents in a format and language that parents can understand.
*Provide other practical support for parent involvement activities as parents may request.

Title I School-Parent Compact Parental Input Form 2019-2020
As a school, we will:
*provide a high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the
student to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards.
*Provide ongoing opportunities for communication between teachers and parents through parent teacher
conferences, weekly communication folders, parent portal, website, and social media.
*Provide reasonable access to staff through an “open door” policy.
*Provide opportunities for parents to volunteer and participate in their child’s class and observe classroom activities.
*Support parents by providing workshops and educational family nights.
*Provide a family friendly environment.
*Provide opportunities to celebrate student success through awards day, incentives, and communication tools.
As a parent, I will:
*Support my child’s learning by reviewing what my child is learning each week and reading with my child.
*Monitor my child’s attendance, homework completion, television viewing, and bedtime.
*Ensure my child has good attendance, limiting late arrivals and early dismissals.
*Volunteer in my child’s classroom/school when I am available.
*Participate in decisions relating to the education of my child by attending parent/teacher conferences and responding to communication from the school and the teacher.
*Make positive use of my child’s extra-curricular time.
*Support student discipline by reinforcing the Aiken County Student Code Conduct.
*Support teachers with academic and behavior concerns.
As a student, I will:
*Complete all classwork and homework, study, and read.
*Respect teachers, staff members, students, and property.
*Follow the Aiken County Code of Student Conduct and all school rules.
*Be prepared for school by having assignments completed, necessary items signed, and being well rested.
