Mrs. Heather Ridgeway
Hello! My name is Heather Ridgeway and I am one of the Special Needs Resource teachers here at East Aiken School of the Arts. I am new to the Aiken area, but loving every minute so far. I moved up her from Central Florida over the summer. I brought with me my husband of over 21 years; Charlie, my adult son; Joeseph, two small dogs, and three cats. We are all educators in Aiken County starting this school year. My husband will be working at LBC middle school and my son will be working at Kennedy Middle school.
Through the years I have taught bed babies through 22-year-old high school seniors in both private and public sectors. I have also homeschooled my son for a few years. I for the past 3 years have worked at The Endeavor School in Seminole County Florida as a special need’s teacher of K-12. I currently hold a Florida Teaching Certificate for both ESE (K-12) and Elementary Education (K-6) and a South Carolina Teacher Certificate for Special Education: Multi-categorical, Elementary Education, and Early Childhood. I earned my associate degree with High Honors and earned Magna Cum Laude with my bachelor’s degree. I also am currently working on my master’s degree in Education. In my free time I love to be going to the mountains, cruising, traveling, watching football, treating myself to a Starbucks, and spending time with my family.
Even though I was born and raised in Florida and I do love my manatees, my educational career started in Berkley County, SC over 20 years ago where I was a special education paraprofessional at Berkley Middle School. I left in 2009 to live in the mountains of Kentucky and then down to the sunshine state of Florida in 2012, teaching all along the way. I have now returned to the state that started this amazing career.
I am very excited about working here at East Aiken School of the Arts. The staff already have been very welcoming, and the team spirit is amazing. I look forward to watching students grow through curriculum with the Arts intertwined.
Communication is key to building strong relationships. I believe that teaching and raising children take a village. I hope you come to see me as a vital part of that village. My planning time is from 10:05 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me by email at email@example.com or by phone at (803) 641-2450.
I believe whole heartedly that all students are diamonds in the rough. We as educators just need to find how we can make them shine!
