Ms. Kristy Ghrist

My name is Kristy Ghrist. I am the Health Science 1, 2, 3 and Clinical Studies (Health Science 4) instructor for our Health Science Program at Aiken High School. I am also the HOSA chapter Advisor here at Aiken High School. Last year was the first year the Health Science Program was available to students at AHS. I am excited to begin my second year of teaching the program. I graduated from University of South Carolina Aiken with my bachelor’s degree in Nursing and graduated with my Maters in Nursing Education from Grand Canyon University.

Aside from building the Health Science Program, I am part of the freshman success team at AHS and Red Cross Club Sponsor and Medical Explorers Leader at Aiken High School.

My journey in the healthcare field started directly after high school graduation as a Certified Nursing Assistant. I fell in love with geriatrics and dedicated 10 years in the geriatric field. I also worked at University Hospital as an oncology nurse. While working oncology, I also taught the EKG and Anatomy & Physiology courses at Helm’s College in Augusta, Georgia.

In December of 2018, I joined the Aiken High School family as the School Nurse. AHS has been, by far, an incredible experience. When given the opportunity to transition to the Health Science teacher, I felt beyond blessed! Teaching has always been one of my greatest passions, but to have the opportunity to engage is both passions, nursing and education- I am beyond excited. I cannot wait to share my excitement with my students and embark on their journey to healthcare.

I am also the AHS HOSA advisor. This is Aiken High’s first year having a HOSA chapter and I am thrilled to be part of such a great new program.

When not at AHS, you can find me camping, kayaking, hiking or hanging out with my scouts and children. We love taking family adventures. I am a scoutmaster for the girls BSA Troop 7G and an Associate Advisor for Crew 7 scouts. If it is in the outdoors- I love it!!!
