My name is John Swan, but I go by Jack. This is my second year teaching. My first year was spent teaching self-contained in the high school setting. My wife and I moved to Aiken in June from Illinois and we love it. I began a teacher because of my brother who is has Autism. When he was going through school I saw the impact of both good teachers and not so good teacher. I decided that I want to be have a positive impact on students. Here at Kennedy I teach Learning Strategies. This is a non-graded course that provides support for students in the areas of reading and math. When students are engaged in a three rotational model: small group were the student receive direct instruction, computers were the student work on either Freckle or Fastbridge these computer programs provide assessment data on the students improvement and areas that need more focus lastly, Independent work were students complete work directly linked to their IEP goals.
