Welcome to the 2019/2020 school year. My name is Mrs. Harley, and I am happy to have your child in my class. This brand new academic year you will see your child learning more things and gaining different experiences. It is my hope that we will work together to ensure that your child's full potential is reached. I am looking forward to a good parent-teacher relationship with you. My number is 803 641-2690 if you need anything.
I will be available to answer your phone calls after school. You can call the school and leave a message and we will return your call at the earliest opportunity. You can email me at the above address. I check my emails in the morning before 7 and after dismissal at 2:30.
**To change your child’s transportation you must send in a written note every time. There are no exceptions. This is for your child’s safety.
What Your Child Will Need:
*A bookbag large enough to carry papers and artwork home.
*A complete change of clothes to keep at school in case of an accident. (Socks, underwear, shorts/pants and shirt).
*First and last name on all coats, sweaters, and bookbags.
*A plastic nap mat with your child’s name written on it for naptime.
We will have several celebrations during the school year. Parents will be asked to help. You will receive more information about these celebrations later.
If you would like to provide a special treat for your child’s class during the year, it must be purchased from a store, per district directives no food prepared at home may be served at school. If you would like to send in cupcakes for your child’s birthday that is fine but please send in the mini cupcakes.
*Any money sent to school should be in an envelope labeled with your child’s name, along with the amount and purpose of the money.
*Class news and other information sent from the school will be sent home periodically. Please check your child’ blue daily folder every day.
*Parents should report to the front office to have your child dismissed early.
*Please report to the front office if you would like to visit our classroom during school hours. You will need a valid I.D. with picture and will have to sign in before coming to the classroom.
*If your child is injured in school, we will take appropriate precautions. Minor scrapes will be handled in the classroom. All other injuries will be sent to our school nurse who will make contact with parents as needed. All parents will need to sign a consent to treat form. (You will get this on your orientation day)
*Any medications must be given to the school nurse to administer and you must fill out the necessary forms.
PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION
Mrs. Brandi Harley
“If we teach today as we taught yesterday, then we rob our children of tomorrow.” This quote by John Dewey is the epitome of my philosophy of education. Having over thirteen years of experience in education, I have witnessed a paradigm shift. We are charged with teaching every child in our classroom and ensuring that each child reaches his or her full potential- “No child can be left behind.”
My role as the teacher is to equip students with the tools needed to become capable and successful students. To accomplish this goal, I use a variety of mediums to address each student’s individual learning style. Addressing all modalities of learning is achieved by differentiating instruction, use of technology, performance-based tasks, and implementing brain-based learning strategies (teaching the way the brain learns). In an effort to improve the quality of instruction for my students, I present curriculum that involves the interests of the students and makes learning relevant to life, ultimately creating a society of lifelong learners.
