Monique Jones Smalls

My name is Monique Jones Smalls.  This is my sixteenth year of teaching.  I am the literacy coach for Ridge Spring Monetta Elementary.

I am a 1999 graduate of Wade Hampton High School.  I earned my undergraduate degree in early childhood education from the University of South Carolina Aiken and my Master’s degree from the University of Phoenix in Curriculum and Instruction.  In 2012, I was recognized as a National Board Certified teacher in Early/Middle Childhood Literacy and I recently completed my specialist degree in educational leadership and administration from Arkansas State University.

I have taught all content areas in first and second grade, social studies, and English Language Arts in third grade, and served as a Reading Recovery teacher.  I have served as a reading coach for Hampton Elementary School in Hampton, South Carolina and I was also a part of the leadership team.

Throughout my teaching career I have been recognized as Allendale County School’s Rookie Teacher of the Year in 2004, Varnville Elementary’s Teacher of the Year in 2010, and I was chosen as a TAP mentor teacher for Ben Hazel Primary School and Hampton Elementary.

I am a mom of two boys, Malachi and Isaiah.  Both boys are honor students and lead very active lives.  Malachi is a member of the South Aiken Marching band and will participate in track and field.  Isaiah is a member of the South Aiken cross country team and plans to participate in track and Kennedy Middle basketball team.  I currently serve as Open Arms Fellowship secretary/treasurer where my family attends church every Sunday.

I am happy to be a part of the Ridge Spring Monetta Elementary School family!
