Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Nikki Mock
Greetings Parents, Students, and Teachers! I am the Media Specialist for Clearwater Elementary. Prior to coming to Clearwater Elementary in the Fall of 2014, I had been teaching in Aiken County for eight years as a fifth grade ELA teacher. After spending that time with my fabulous fifth graders, I decided to pursue my greatest passion...BOOKS!! I have a bachelor's degree in Communication, with a minor in graphic design. I also have an elementary certification and a Masters of Education with a focus on elementary education and a Masters of Library Science.
My favorite book is "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" by C.S. Lewis. Some of my favorite books are the "Sisters Grimm" and "N.E.R.D.S." series by Michael Buckley, "The Lightning Thief" series by Rick Riordan, "Wonder" by R.J. Palacio, "The Hunger Games Trilogy" by Suzanne Collins, "The Host" by Stephanie Meyer, "Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen, "Hoot" by Carl Hiaasen, and too many others to list here. Reading is without a doubt one of my favorite hobbies.
I am a member of the South Carolina Association of School Librarians (SCASL) where I am part of the Children's Book Award Committee. Each year, I read nearly 100 books with other members of the team as we decide on the top 20 books for students. Once our top 20 are chosen, students are encouraged to read and vote on the titles. It is students' votes that decide the number one book each year. I love being able to recommend books to students around our state and read a variety of titles that I can recommend to the students at CES.
I am so excited to work with each and every one of you. My goal is to help create lifelong readers and to get students excited about reading. I want to help students learn about different genres, researching skills, digital citizenship, thinking critically, different technologies, and ethical use of information.
