Mrs. Lori James
Welcome Scholars! My name is Lori James and I am so exciting to have the opportunity to teach at Aiken Scholars Academy this year! I have been teaching Social Studies for 15 years in New Jersey and Virginia. Some of the courses that I've taught include; AP Human Geography, AP U.S. Government, AP Comparative Government, World History and U.S. History. I have a B.A. in geography from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, where I was a member of the Carolina Marching Band. I continued on at USC to earn my Master of Arts in Teaching Social Studies.
I grew up in Clifton, NJ, which is located about 10 miles outside of New York City. I spent 6 years in in Columbia, SC for college and graduate school. Since then, I've lived in New Jersey and Northern Virginia. I enjoy spending time with my husband, Will and our two dogs, Abby and JJ. I'm an avid road biker and have competed in two sprint triathlons. I also love to knit and read in my spare time. World travel has been one of the greatest passions in my life. I had the opportunity to study abroad in Aix-en-Provence, France when I was in college and have since traveled to more than 20 countries. I'm also a huge Gamecock fan and enjoy supporting my alma matter in all of its sporting events, especially football.
My educational philosophy is to challenege students to grow to their full potential and teach them how to succeed in a global community. I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually and socially.
