Dear parents and students,

The 2019-2020 school year will be my 37th year as an educator.  I am excited to return to LMMS for my second year.

My summer plans include spending time with my family and friends.  Traveling will include visiting family in other states.  I also plan to tour some historical homes.

The 2019-2020 academic school year will be full of mathematical investigations as we delve into expanding our knowledge of some familiar standards, and as we embark on a brand new mathematical strand known as functions.

To make our year successful, please consider the following information:

Course Description & Pacing Guide (Available in August)

This information can be found

Pencils, notebook paper, 3-ring binder, coloring markers or pencils, highlighter

Classroom Expectations: A) Arrive to class on time. B) Be prepared with supplies/homework. C) Show respect for others. D) Ask questions! E) Utilize resources/time efficiently and properly. F) Listen carefully and follow directions. G) Engage and work hard in class.

Grading Policy:

40% = Tests, 30% = Quizzes, 30% = CW/HW

Oftentimes, the HW will be a continuation of CW.

Textbooks will not be used at school.  They will be issued for students to use a resource at home as necessary.  The students will receive multiple packets to be housed in their 3-ring binders.  Multiple grades will be acquired from these packets.  They typically will not be collected for grading purposes until the day of the quiz/test.  Therefore, organization is highly encouraged.  Additionally, most assignments will not be accepted late.

Parents only are encouraged to enroll in the REMIND process to receive daily messages about CW, HW, upcoming projects, tests, etc.  The information to enroll is on the reverse side of this sheet.  Parents are welcome to contact me via email,, or by phone, 803.663.4300.

Algebraically yours,

David R. Kinlaw
