Mrs. Rebecca-Judyth Zurcher

The 2017-2018 school year marks my second full year at Leavelle, I began in January of 2017 teaching seventh and eighth grade ELA.  In addition to teaching seventh grade ELA and advanced ELA this year, I am also teaching one 8th grade class.  I am excited to announce that I not only get to teach ELA, but I get to be the assistant coach for our LMMS cheerleaders!

I am originally from Houston, Texas where I graduated from the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts as a dance major.  In 1999, I graduated from the Art Institute of Houston with a degree in interior design.  Shortly after that, I married a boy in the army and started moving around the world.  We started out in Killeen, Texas, where I continued to practice design work, four years later, we moved to Grovetown, Georgia where I recognized the call to teaching.  I felt that too many students were the proverbial square pegs being forced into round holes and began my journey to do something about it.  While still in school, my family moved to a tiny town in northern Bavaria, Germany called Mürsbach (about an hour north of Nürnberg).  I did student teaching in Schweinfurt at a Department of Defense School (DoDS) and finally graduated in spring of 2013 from Western Governor’s University with a bachelor's degree in education.  We moved to San Antonio, Texas in the summer of 2013 and I began teaching seventh grade ELA at Irving Middle School.  Just when we thought we might get to stay somewhere a while, we found out we were coming back to Fort Gordon and we moved back to the CSRA, this time on the South Carolina side, and I started at Leavelle in January of 2017 teaching seventh and eighth grade ELA.
