Mr. Gerry Stevens
Welcome to ALL band members to the 2021-2022 school year. My name is Gerry Stevens and I am from Beech Island, South Carolina. I am a 2009 graduate of Midland Valley High School. I graduated in the summer of 2016 from the University of South Carolina Aiken where I received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Instrumental Music Education. While attending the University of South Carolina Aiken, I was a member of multiple ensembles, including: USCA Wind Ensemble, The Pacer Pulse Basketball Band, USCA Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, and the Banksia Saxophone Quartet. During my time at USCA, I served as President and Vice-President of USCA's Collegiate Chapter of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). During my Internship, I served as the Co-Director of the CSRA New Horizons Band. This is an ensemble made up of members of the local Aiken County, and surrounding, area that have decided to learn how to play an instrument after retirement. After graduating from USCA, my first job was located in Berkeley County as a General Music Teacher at Cane Bay Elementary and Berkeley Elementary School. I spent 4 years teaching band at Kennedy Middle School. Students under my direction have consistantly received Excellent and Superior Ratings at SCBDA events. My students have also placed in the top of their instruments on a State, Region, and County level through the SCBDA All-State/Region Audition process.
I am excited to start my first year of teaching at Midland Valley High School. It is a dream and an honor to serve as the Director of Bands at Midland Valley High School. I look forward to working with the parents, students, and staff of the Midland Valley community to grow "The Pride of the Valley" band program to the level of expectation the community has set.
