Ms. Darcy Hancock-Dalal
Greetings from Media Art and Yearbook!
I'm the digital art teacher here at Midland Valley High. I teach Media Art 1, 2, and 3 (yes, it goes to 3!), as well as the Yearbook Production classes. In Media Art, we focus on learning the basics of graphic design, photography, and illustration by learning the programs InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. I am in my sixth year at Midland Valley, and my eleventh year of teaching overall. I'm a double Dawg out of Athens, Georgia, with a B.F.A. in graphic design and an M.A.Ed. in Art Education. My thesis focus was on creating accessible instruction technology for digital art.
I have worked as a graphic designer, illustrator, photographer, and fine artist for over 15 years, with jobs in everything from pet portraits to book publishing. Though I was born and grew up in Washington, D.C., my whole family is from Georgia, leading me to move to Athens to attend college at UGA. I spent my first year of teaching in Athens as an art therapist in a psychoeducational school, and then taught graphic design and print shop for four years at Northside High in Warner Robins, before moving to the Augusta area with my husband, Dr. Curran Dalal. He's a pulmonary/ciritcal care fellow who primarily works in the ICUs at Augusta University and the VA. We have two cats, and more college debt than we'd like to think about! I love video games, painting, horror movies, and animation of any kind.
My Media Art classes use Schoology for students to submit classwork, projects, and quizzes, as well as recieve self-paced instruction. Students who miss school time will be able to continue instruction at home, even if projects can't be worked on. Parent access codes can be distributed upon request.
Students should be able to go to acpsd.schoology.com to sign in. The username is their lunch number, and the password (unless the student has changed it) is the same as it was last year. I can reset this password if requested.
Please feel free to email me (dhancock@acpsd.net) about any questions regarding Media Art, the National Art Honors Society, the Gateway summer arts program, or Yearbook, and I will do my best to answer them.
