Mrs. April Windsor
This was my eighth year as a literacy interventionist at Aiken Elementary and my twenty-first year as a teacher in Aiken County. My husband and I have four children, ages 13-20, and a dog named Dixie.
As a lead teacher and early literacy interventionist, I am able to partner with fellow teachers to provide supplemental support for the academic, social-emotional growth and development of children at our school. I specifically provide literacy support of students in K-2 who need additional instruction in reading and writing. I have been specially trained in the early detection of reading difficulties and how to help those who are struggling. The goal is for these lowest achieving students to reach grade level competency in as little as 12-20 weeks. I believe all students can learn and I hope to instill a love of books and learning in each child I work with.
One of the main focus points for our educators and students during the 2019-2020 school year has been having a “growth mindset.” A growth mindset unlocks our ability to learn and grow especially during challenging times. Little did we know how important this growth mindset would be for all of us this year! Because of this experience and our growth mindset, I believe we all will be stronger when we come out on the other side of the COVID-19 Pandemic! History is being written! We hold the pen! Together, we will write the BEST story for our children!
