Mr. William Michael Kimmerly
I am an Artist and an Art Teacher. I was born and raised just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and moved to South Carolina in 1990 to pursue my degrees. I have a Bachelor Degree in Art History and Art Studio from the University of South Carolina, as well as a Masters in Fine Arts in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design. I have been teaching for 22 years and have taught a Montessori Art Class for 3 year olds and all the way through to college level coursework in Art History and Photography. The bulk of my experience is in the elementary classroom and that is where I find great joy in sharing the value of Art with others. My emphasis in the class room is on finding meaning. Art is a language, and like any other language you sometimes need a translator in order to understand it. My roll is twofold - translator and facilitator. I want to give children the foundation, materials, tools, time and space they need to allow their creative energy to start communicating their ideas, as well as the "know-how" to understand what they are doing/saying with their art. I have been "Teacher of the Year" twice, once in Allendale County and the second time at Chukker Creek. I've mentored other teachers, evaluated other teachers, helped design curricula in 2 districts, written and coordinated grant funding, and served as grade level chair in two districts. I thrive on the energy that exists in an elementary school. There is structure but you will never have the same day twice. The honesty and fearlessness that children exhibit in their artwork serves as inspiration for me both personally and professionally.
