Degrees and Certifications:
Language and culture are fascinating conduits through which content is learned! My past 17 years as an ESOL teacher have been the most rewarding years of my teaching career. The language learning achievements of my students and the positive relationships built with my ESOL families bring me professional as well as personal satisfaction.
My previous teaching experience includes nine years in elementary and nine years in middle school language arts. I hold a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in elementary education. I am also certified in English as a Second Language. I am a member of the South Carolina International Reading Association. My additional training in SIOP and in Reading Recovery have helped me in working effectively with English Language Learners (ELLs). My future goal is to collaborate more effectively with content teachers of ELLs to ensure greater academic success for this diverse population of students.
My inspiration comes from God, family, and friends. I have been married to my husband, who is a pastor and teacher, for 33 years. We have one daughter who will soon graduate from vet school. This, perhaps, explains the rest of our family - three dogs a horse, and 2 chickens. We enjoy nature and all the simple pleasures it affords. I like to think we are life-long learners and encourage our students to be as well!
