Dr. Elisabeth Hardy

My name is Elisabeth Hardy and this will be my third year full time at North Augusta High School teaching ESOL and my seventh year of teaching ESOL overall.  I have loved helping students reach their full academic potential while assimilating two or more languages.  Prior to teaching ESOL, I taught AP Literature and various levels of English at North Augusta High School and schools in Georgia and Virginia, as well.  This begins my 28th year of teaching middle and high school students.

I grew up in a small town south of Augusta, Georgia and attended the University of Georgia in 1988 after graduating from high school.  I graduated from UGA in 1992 with a BSEd in English Education.  I then began teaching in Burke County, Georgia.  In 1994, I enrolled at Georgia Southern University to earn my M.Ed. in Adult and Vocational Education.  I returned to Georgia Southern in 2000 to begin my Ed.D. in Curriculum Studies, graduating in 2007. It was during this degree that I added ESOL endorsement to my Georgia and then Virginia teaching certificates. I have spent several summers working with a curriculum writing team to create and revise portions of the English curriculum for Aiken County.  During the summers of 2016 and 2017, I received training from the National Math and Science Institute to improve my AP LIterature instruction.  In 2018, I was a reader for the AP Literature exam inS Kansas City.

I began teaching in 1993 at Burke County Middle School in Waynesboro, GA. There I taught 8th grade English for two years.  From there I taught at Vidalia High School in Vidalia, GA (3 years), Southeastern Technical College in Vidalia, GA (18 months), Swainsboro High School in Swainsboro, GA (11 years), Charterhouse Day School in Richmond, VA (2 years), and North Augusta High School (6 years). I have enjoyed teaching students of varying abilities in middle and high school for the past 26 years.  I always tell people that there is never a dull moment.  I love watching students "think" and learn to reason.  It's amazing what students will show me on their faces and communicate without saying a word!

In my free time, I enjoy watching and cheering on my son who plays college football (Go Owls!), running, reading, cooking/baking, doing crafts and DIY projects around the house, shopping, and spending time with my family and friends. In the fall, I love watching college football (Go Dawgs! and Go Owls!).  I love to travel and spend time with my family: my husband Kerry, my step son Rhodes and his wife Christina, my son Zach (who is a football player at Kennesaw State University), my son Tyler (who is a student at Augusta Tech), and my son Knox (who is in 3rd grade).  We also have fun with our two dogs, Molly and Meg.
